Football: Super Gavin Williams thanks the fans

GAVIN Williams has said that he will be a Yeovil Town fan ‘forever’ despite being released from the Glovers earlier this week.

The popular midfielder, who made 188 appearances and scored 34 goals for Yeovil over four spells at Huish Park starting in 2002, was released on Tuesday along with fellow midfielder Dominic Blizzard and defender Richard Hinds.Football: Super Gavin Williams thanks the fans

Williams has received dozens of ‘good luck for the future’ and ‘thanks for the memories’ messages from Yeovil fans since the news broke of his departure.

And now Williams, 32, popularly known to Yeovil fans as Super Gav, has used social networking outlet Facebook to thank the supporters for their messages.

‘’Thanks for all the messages,’’ he said. ‘’They really mean a lot.’’

And he added: ‘’I’ve loved playing for little old Yeovil and I’ll be a Yeovil fan forever.’’

For a player to have four spells at one club suggests that there is a special bond between that player and that club. There is no doubt that Williams has that special relationship with Yeovil Town.

If fans had to write down their best all-time Yeovil Town XI from the last 20 years there is no doubt that the name of Gavin Williams would feature prominently.

It would not be a surprise at all if Yeovil don’t see Gavin Williams in the years to come from time to time – he might even decide to join the supporters on the home terrace at Huish Park?
