Kate Humble is coming to Yeovil

TELEVISION presenter Kate Humble will be at Brympton House on the outskirts of Yeovil later this year to meet fans and talk about her new book Humble By Nature.Kate Humble is coming to Yeovil

Kate, who has become a recognisable face on the TV in recent years with series such as Volcano Live, Earth’s Extraordinary Journey, Lambing Live and the long-running wildlife series Springwatch and Autumnwatch, will be at Brympton on May 14 from 7pm.

In 2010, Kate learned that a nearby farm in the Wye Valley where she had lived for three years was set to be sold off and broken up into lots to maximise its value.

Another small farm lost; another opportunity for a young farmless farmer gone. Kate contacted the council with an alternative plan; to keep the farm a working farm. After six months of plans and endless meetings, Kate and her Husband, Ludo, finally convinced the council that their plan would work, even though they hadn't the first clue of how to run a farm.

What follows in Humble by Nature is a highly personal account of Kate’s move from a London house with 20 square feet of garden, to a Welsh smallholding with four acres, to becoming the owner of a farm and 117 acres of land.

Along the way we meet dogs Badger and Bella, Bertie and Lawrence the Donkeys, pigs Duffy, Delilah, Myfanwy and Blackberry, goats Biscuit and Honey and a whole host of newborn lambs.

Humble by Nature is the story of two people prepared to follow their hearts and save a small part of British farming heritage, whatever the consequences.

Kate said: “I’ve spent a large part of my working life being upstaged by animals and although this book is ostensibly about the joys – and perils – of rescuing a farm, it is also a warning to anyone who loses their heart to a mongrel.  You will never be the centre of attention again.”

She will be at Brympton on May 14 to meet fans, talk about her book and sign copies. Tickets are priced £5 in advance from Waterstone’s book store in Middle Street, Yeovil, on 01935-479832.
