Football: Yeovil Town 2, Bury 1

IT was not pretty, it was not entertaining, but Yeovil Town can savour an important three-point haul tonight following their 2-1 success over Bury at Huish Park this afternoon.

Goals from Byron Webster and Sam Foley gave Yeovil the win, but it was hardly vintage Glovers as they struggled against the side that arrived in South Somerset on the bottom of the table and had to play for an hour with just ten-men following the sending off of Zac Thompson.

Thompson's sending-off in the 27th minute following a bad challenge on Yeovil's Keanu Marsh-Brown brought proceedings to life following a dull opening.

And it was not long before Yeovil made the man-advantage tell when Webster netted from close range after Bury keeper Trevor Carson spilled a simple looking catch.

But that was about it as Yeovil struggled to make inroads against a well-marshalled Bury side led at the back by former Yeovil favourite, centre-half Adam Lockwood.

The game became all square in the 74th minute when Dominic Poleon netted after some sustained Bury pressure and it was nothing which the visitors did not deserve.

But that seemed to wake up Yeovil and they soon regained the lead moments later when Sam Foley netted with a glancing header from inside the six-yard box.

Bury had chances to have levelled, but Yeovil keeper Marek Stech was in good form to deny the visitors any further goals.

At the other end Paddy Madden came close to scoring, but saw his effort blocked by Carson.

One disappointing aspect for the Glovers was the crowd attendance once again. The club had given out 1,200 free tickets to schools around the area in the hope to boost the crowd at Huish Park for this afternoon's game.

The attendance was 3,386 - a 384 improvement on the previous gate at Huish Park; but today's drab encounter against Bury will hardly inspire those extras to come again.

But three points is three points and Yeovil now sit 14th in the table.
