LEISURE: Reef will be rocking with School in a Bag charity

ROCK band Reef will be supporting the Somerset-based charity School in a Bag on Friday (December 16, 2016) when it plays a gig in its home town of Glastonbury.

Reef  have agreed for the SIAB team to hold a bucket collection at the concert which is being held Glastonbury Town Hall.

A SIAB spokesman said: “This is awesome and we would like to say a big thank you to Reef for allowing us to do this.

“All the money raised on the night will go towards schoolbags which will be distributed and funded under Reef’s name.”LEISURE: Reef will be rocking with School in a Bag charity

Reef have been around for more than 20 years and their most successful single to date was Place Your Hands – which reached number six in the UK singles chart back in October 1996.

School in a Bag based at Chilthorne Domer, near Yeovil, provides bags filled with stationery equipment and resources that will enable a child to write, draw, colour, calculate, express themselves and – above all – learn.

School in a Bag was formed in 2009 as an initiative of the Piers Simon Appeal which was launched five years previously following the Asian Boxing Day tsunami of 2004 which killed hundreds of thousands of people including former Yeovil College student Piers Simon.

So far around 75,000 schoolbags have been distributed to disadvantaged and orphaned children around the globe.

Each schoolbag costs £20 and for more information about the charity and how to get involved go to http://www.schoolinabag.org/ .

Alternatively why not pop into the School in a Bag’s pop-up shop in the Quedam centre in Yeovil which will be there up until Christmas.

Patron of the Piers Simon Appeal and SIAB is Glastonbury Festival founder – the legendary Michael Eavis.
