PANTO 2015: One script, two casts – it’s another Castaway mega show!

PUTTING on a pantomime production is not always the easiest thing to do – but the job doubles in size when you have two casts to organise!

But that is exactly what the Yeovil-based Castaway Theatre Group will be doing next week when it puts on its sell-out panto at the Swan Theatre; one script, two casts!

Babes in the Wood will be performed nightly from Wednesday, January 28, 2015, through to Saturday, January 31, 2015, at 7.30pm with an extra Saturday matinee show at 2.30pm.

The Castaway group – which last year celebrated its tenth anniversary – has continued to grow in size and now has over 100 members and an abundance of talented children in its ranks.

The group meets each Saturday morning at the Octagon Theatre in Yeovil and has recently introduced a second youth group to the fold.

But it meant that the only way that the Castaways’ inspiration, Lynn Lee Brown, could include everyone in the forthcoming pantomime was to have two casts.

The Babes in the Wood panto has been split into two groups – Team Robin and Team Hood.

It means that the younger children and dancers will perform in alternate shows and some of the principal roles also stick to their team groups, while just to complicate matters further is that some of the Castaways are in all five shows, but are in different roles depending on whether it is a Team Robin or a Team Hood production.

“It’s been challenging,” said Lynn, who has written and directed the panto, and has been helped by a great team in putting the show together including choreography by Kirsty Beaumont and musical direction from Tammie Lloyd. “But we’ve loved it and we’re really looking forward to putting on the panto,” added Lynn.

Tickets have been snapped up very quickly and there are now just a few seats – if any – remaining.
