Preston School will be buzzing with the success of HONK!

STUDENTS and staff at Preston School in Yeovil will still be on a high today (Friday, March 21, 2014) following the completion of their two-show musical production of HONK!

It was the first time in nearly ten years that Preston – which is also a Business and Enterprise Academy – had put on a show and talented students pulled out all the stops and wowed the audience on Wednesday and Thursday nights with the musical which is based on Hans Christian’s Anderson’s famous story The Ugly Duckling.

Preston principal Tony Bloxham said: “It has been such a pleasure to see new talent emerge through this production and also to witness the excitement and energy the rehearsals have brought to the school.

“Congratulations to all involved – you should be very proud of yourselves.”

The brains behind the show were that of head of drama, Kayleigh Plomer, who only arrived at Preston in September.

Preston School will be buzzing with the success of HONK!Mrs Plomer said that the two shows were the culmination of “five months of hard work” which began with the auditions last November.

“With the number of students who chose to audition, the team had the unenviable task of whittling the students down to the cast,” she said as director of the show, while Brendan Canavan was in charge of the music.

“The standard of work and the skill shown by all those who auditioned made these decisions even harder and, as a result, we cast more students than originally intended and are immensely proud of the fact that we had over 50 Preston students from Years Seven to Ten involved.”

Mrs Plomer added: “School productions cannot go ahead without the support of parents/carers, staff and friends, picking up after rehearsals, learning lines and rescheduling commitments – for which we are incredibly grateful.”

While the entire cast was excellent and full of energy, audiences were able to indulge in some refreshments provided by Preston’s Lets Get Cooking Club.
