Yeovil College students take just a week to create Festival of Musicals

PERFORMING arts students at Yeovil College had to pull out all the stops to ensure that it was “on with the show” – even though they had to change their entire production with just a week to go before curtain up!

The students were going to be performing the musical Godspell, but due to unforeseen circumstances because of illness to the show’s director – it meant that they had to have a rethink.

So it meant that the students had to quickly come up with a new show and decided upon The Festival of Musicals based on some of the favourite musical productions of the past 70 years.Yeovil College students take just a week to create Festival of Musicals

The big problem was, however, that they had just a week to put the show together and rehearse it before going “live” on Thursday and Friday (February 13-14, 2014) at the college.

A college spokesman said: “As we began to progress it became apparent that this was a bit of a challenge.

“But the students have been amazing and risen to the challenge. They have worked hard to block and rehearse their scenes and source their costumes.

“We are very proud of what the students have achieved.”

Musicals which featured in the show were Me and My Girl; Oklahoma; South Pacific; Cabaret; Godspell; Little Shop of Horrors; Lion King; Mamma Mia; and Rocky Horror Picture Show.

The college would like to thank: Julie Read; Lucy Scott; Ian Rogers; Jose Oliver; Ali Enicott; Jack Morris; Ali McQueen; Danni Turner; Stephen Mounter; Alex Gartshore; Caz Guppy; and Sophie Norcott.

The Yeovil Press was delighted to be at the college on Friday (Feb 14, 2014) and we have created three photo galleries from the show. These can be found on the links below:
