Yeovil Press confession over X Factor singer

THE Yeovil Press has a rather embarrassing confession to make about South Somerset singer Matt Cahill of X Factor finalists Kingsland Road.

A few years ago Steve Sowden, of the Yeovil Press, was working as a reporter on a local newspaper in the Chard area, when he was asked to act as a judge at a karaoke competition final at the Phoenix Hotel in the town.

And Steve admitted: “Matt was in the competition, but I didn’t pick him as the winner!

“He was good, but I didn’t think he was the best in the contest.”

Steve added: “It’s obviously great to see Matt on the X Factor and flying the flag for Chard! But it just goes to show how much I know about music!”

But Matt will know his X Factor dream hangs in the balance tonight (Sunday, October 20, 2013) as he and his fellow band members from Kingsland Road fight for survival.

Matt, who comes from Chard, and the rest of the boys were left stunned and shocked after losing last night’s Flash Vote which means they will be singing for survival in tonight’s live show which will be screened on ITV at 8pm.

Their mentor, Take That’s Gary Barlow, was shocked when it emerged that Kingsland Road had come bottom of the public vote having failed to inspire them with their version of Bruno Mars’ Marry You.

It was a surprise with Kingsland Road among the favourites to win the competition and a multi-million pound recording contract.

Voting lines for the remaining contestants reopened last night after the announcement of Kingsland Road’s bottom place finish and they will remain open until tonight’s show where the second contestant to face the sing-off will be revealed.

The two acts will sing off as usual and then the judges – Gary Barlow, Louis Walsh, Nicole Sherzinger and Sharon Osbourne - will decide who stays and goes.

The Yeovil Press’ Steve joked: “As a fellow music competition judge, of sorts, I hope they make the right decision and keep Matt and Kingsland Road in the competition!”
