Rugby: Last-gasp try woe for Ivel Barbarians 1sts

YEOVIL-BASED Ivel Barbarians 1sts came within a whisker of getting their first much-needed win of the season in the Southern Counties South.

Ivel had been looking on course yesterday (Saturday, October 5, 2013) to get their first victory at the fourth attempt in the 2013-14 season.

But visitors North Dorset had other ideas and came back strongly to snatch a share of the spoils in a 31pts-all draw at Ivel's sun-drenched Dorchester Road ground.

Ivel had looked in good form and held a decent lead at half-time. But North Dorset came back at them, only for Ivel to up their game again to regain their initiative.

But North Dorset got back into it and with their tails up they gained a draw with a last-gasp try to break Ivel hearts.

Ivel will be desperately disappointed at missing out on the win, but will look at the positives and know that it was a hugely improved performance on the one from the previous week which saw them suffer a heavy 84pts-nil defeat at table-toppers Wells.

There were some good individual performances, but slips and lapses in concentration cost Ivel dear in the end.

Ivel should, however, take positives from the fact that they had come so close to beating a team which last season was plying its trade at the higher South West One (West) level.

But onwards and upwards for Ivel and a tricky trip to second-placed Wimborne next Saturday (October 12, 2013).
