Countdown to South Petherton Carnival 2013

A WEEK of events has got underway in South Petherton as it gears up to its annual fun-filled Carnival this weekend.

Carnival Day on Saturday (Sept 14) will see the procession set off from the Recreation Ground at 7.30pm into Lightgate Lane, Lightgate Road, Knapp Hill, St James Street, Palmer Street, Summer Shard, West Street, The Square, St James Street and Roundwell Street before heading back into Lightgate   Lane and returning to the Recreation Ground.

Also on Saturday will be a Mile of Coins in St James Street from 9am followed by an all-day exhibition by South Petherton Photographic Society at the Blake Hall form 10am.

There will be line dancing in The Square from 6.45pm and the Carnival Band will perform there at 7.15pm.

A children’s party will be held at South Petherton Youth Club on Friday at 5pm, while a bingo night will be held at South Petherton Sports and Social Club on Thursday from 8pm and a grand draw at 9pm.

The funfair arrives in South Petherton on Wednesday at the Recreation Ground and will be there up until the end of the Carnival Day.

The countdown to Carnival got underway last weekend with a race night and a quiz at the Brewers Arms, while on Sunday there was the Carnival Fun Day at the Recreation Ground.

Winners in the “design a Carnival poster” were announced. The results were as follows: Age group four to seven years – 1 Martha Swift, 2 Rebecca Mackenzie; 8-11 years – 1 Samuel Muxlow, 2 William Elswood; 12-16 years – 1 Hattie Palmer, 2 Megan Haywood.
