Maiden Newton at War needs new leader

THE very popular and now well established Maiden Newton at War event in West Dorset is facing a mini crisis.

Maiden Newton at War saw its third and most successful event in June 2012. The event sets out to mark the difficult war years and to remember the contribution that Maiden Newton made to the war effort and the sacrifices that many people from our communities made.

It runs over a long weekend and includes Second World War battle re-enactments, lots of live 1940s music and trade stalls plus many other themed attractions.

The organising committee is looking for a new chairman and event manager. The current chair, Andy Elliott, has been heavily involved in all three previous events and has now decided to stand down.

He said: “This event demands a lot from the manager, but is terrifically rewarding. Large crowds turn up to enjoy some of the best bits of the forties; the music, the fashions and the unique atmosphere.

"The battle re-enactments are a reminder of the conflict and the suffering that we should never forget. This event is in danger of being lost without a new manager, could this be you?”

If you are interested in taking this on for the next event planned for 2014 then please contact Andy on 07967-504716.

He will be pleased to discuss this with you, but be quick as the committee meet tomorrow (Thursday)  to decide upon the future of the event.

If you are up for a challenge and want to be part of one of the best events of its kind in the UK, then this is your chance.
