Me & My Girl at the Octagon

YEOVIL Amateur Operatic Society is getting all set for its next musical production at the Octagon Theatre – the ever-popular Me & My Girl.

The show will be performed from March 12-23 and audiences will be able to join in with well-known songs such as The Lambeth Walk and Leaning on a Lamp Post as the cockneys try to make their way among the Earls and Duchesses of Hareford Hall.

The 1937 musical comedy by Noel Gay has been souped up with gags and one-liners by Stephen Fry.

The Yeovil Amateur Operatic Society is delighted to be welcoming back Shaun Driver (pictured) to the group in the lead role of Bill Snibson.Me & My Girl at the Octagon

Shaun is a brilliant all-rounder who sings, dances, acts and squeezes every ounce of comedy from the character.

He was drafted onto the stage by Thelma Parish in his early teens to show off his gymnastic and break-dancing skills and then did his first show with YAOS as an acrobatic waiter in Hello Dolly.

Since then he has performed up and down the country, both as an amateur and professional, in musicals and plays, most notably in Cameron Mackintosh’s UK tour of Moby Dick in the 90s.

His last role with the Yeovil group was Pontius Pilate in Jesus Christ Superstar back in 2003.

Since then he has pursued many demanding roles in ‘legitimate theatre’ at the Swan Theatre in Yeovil where audiences will have seen him in A Man For All Seasons, Tess of the D’Urbervilles and many others.

Tickets for the YAOS show of Me & My Girl are on sale at the Octagon Theatre box office at 01935-422884 or online from the theatre’s website.
