A NEW £250,000 motor themed family entertainment zone has been opened within the grounds of the Haynes International Motor Museum near Sparkford.Motorland theme zone opens at Haynes Motor Museum

Racing cars, Volkswagen campers, ice-cream vans, diggers, and even a full-size double decker bus are all waiting for youngsters to enjoy this half-term holiday as the museum opens Haynes Motorland.

Haynes Motorland features a 1,500 square metre adventure playground with a myriad of motoring themed interactive games and miniature vehicles for children to enjoy.

Built around a mini road system, children can ride pedal cars around the playground as they learn about road safety and visit the interactive garage to discover the many tools needed to keep vehicles on the road.

There is also an air and water depot, petrol pumps and even working telephone boxes for calling roadside vehicle recovery in case of a breakdown.

And for those who prefer bigger vehicles, excavators, dumper trucks and super diggers sit in a supersized sand pit.

There are also two full sized classic buses – a Bristol bus featuring a cinema and a double decker with a soft play area for the younger children to enjoy.

By Easter the new go-kart circuit known as ‘Haynes Hatch’ with battery powered coin operated vehicles will also be opened with a new indoor arcade featuring the latest motoring computer games and simulators aimed at older children following shortly after.

The new family zone is just one of the new developments that will see the museum expand beyond the restraints of the exhibition halls as it completes its £4.2million redevelopment and expansion in Spring 2014.

Managing director Marc Haynes said: “The outdoor family zone is part of a new pedestrian area at the rear of the museum that will allow us to link the exhibits in the display halls with outdoor activities and the museums library.

''We are looking to create a visitor experience that appeals to all the senses, which includes bringing some vehicles outdoors so we can fire up the engines allowing visitors to hear and smell the motoring heritage as well as admiring the 400 vehicles on display.”

Haynes International Motor Museum is open daily from 10am until 4.30pm until 1st March and from 9.30am until 5.30pm from 2nd March until 31st October. Adult tickets are £10.95 and tickets for children aged four to 14 years are £5.95.

Entrance for children under four years old is free and family tickets offering great discounts are available. For more information, visit www.haynesmotormuseum.co.uk .
