There was no Fanny at the dress rehearsal!

THE talented Castaway Theatre Group concludes its four-show run of the pantomime, Cinderella, at the Swan Theatre in Yeovil tonight (Saturday, February 9).

The Yeovil Press was invited to go along to the dress rehearsal to get a sneak preview of the show on Wednesday night, but was invited to go back to the Swan again last night to take more photos and see the panto in its true glory. And, boy o boy, are we so pleased we did.

The pantomime fun was reaching a key part in the well-told Cinderella story as the two Ugly Sisters (masterly played by Chris White and Nick Mountjoy) were getting ready to go to The Ball when the audience was given some true panto magic - the arrival of Fanny, a hairdresser and beautician, played by the wonderful Lynn Lee Brown.

Lynn, the mastermind behind Castaway and producer and director of the show, strutted onto the stage with short skirt, Beehive wig, dazzling outfit and all the wicked charm of risque innuendo you could wish for. It was as if she had been transported to the Swan Theatre straight from the set of a Carry On film.

She was simply sensational and although she appeared in just two scenes - she stole the show. She may have risen to the occasion more than what her co-stars were expecting with a certain amount of ad-libbing, but it was wonderful entertainment and the audience loved it.

Lynn is what makes Castaway tick and and Castaway without Lynn would be like bread without butter or gin without tonic.

At the dress rehearsal she was very much the producer/director and sat in the near empty theatre watching the panto unfold at its final run through. When it came to her lines, she just said them without too much feeling - to give the unsuspecting members of the Yeovil Press no idea that she would actually be taking the stage by storm come the real deal.

The Yeovil Press are therefore delighted to have seen Lynn in action - she was fantastic and was the icing on the cake of what has been a super panto from the Castaway Theatre Group.
