SCHOOL NEWS: Inspirational Invictus Games champ to present prizes

A DOUBLE-AMPUTEE four-time gold medal Invictus Games champion will be inspiring Buckler’s Mead Academy students in Yeovil at their sports awards evening later this month.

Sean Gaffney will host the Academy's Sports Awards Evening on Wednesday, July 13, 2016, where he will present dozens of awards to successful students.

The four-gold medal winning competitor competed successfully in the 2016 Invictus Games - despite tragically having an amputation below the knee in service as a naval officer.

Victorious students will receive their commendations from Sean for a variety of sports including football, netball, hockey, rounders, rugby and various athletic competitions this year.

Each of Buckler’s Mead’s athletic and sport thriving students hold a different gift and will be recognised for their efforts and talents within their contribution to representing the school throughout the academic year.

Headteacher Sara Gorrod: “Sean Gaffney demonstrates huge courage, character and determination, and we are delighted to have him congratulating students at our sports awards evening.”
