SCHOOL NEWS: Number 10 to produce newshounds at Buckler’s Mead

BUDDING journalists at Buckler’s Mead Academy in Yeovil are already getting used to working from Number 10.

Number 10 is often associated with the Prime Minister making powerful decisions and announcements – most recently being when David Cameron said he was stepping down from the role of PM following the EU Referendum result – with journalists, photographers and TV crews waiting outside the famous front door for news.

But Number 10 at Buckler’s Mead has been turned into a newsroom full where students are writing up stories from their own “patch” which they aim to catapult across the world on social media.

Eight students from the Buckler’s Mead news desk team wrote stories on a range of subjects from around the academy – with some expert coaching from journalists from the PurpleSheep Academy www.thepurplesheep.com which teaches students and staff how to find and get their good news out.

Matt Sullivan, aged 14, said: “We have loved every minute of this. The newsroom allows students to get together and co-operate ideas in school. We were buzzing by the end of it.

“With the help of experts it was very fruitful and we produced at least ten stories. Number 10 has become the hub for writing up the amazing stories that happen throughout our amazing school. We hope people enjoy reading them.”
