SCHOOLS AND COLLEGES: Enjoying life on the Wildside

PUPILS from Chard School had a wonderful Wildside Experience when they escaped to the country and camped in the beautiful Blackdown Hills.

Fully catered for by the brilliant Wildside team, the children had a real nature experience; camping in Tepees and experiencing the tranquillity of the surroundings by day and night.

There was archery, stream-crossing, games and wooden necklace making, as well as the main event in the woods, during which time they called in the Tawny Owls, listened to the woodland sounds, played hide and seek games and decorated the woods with glow-sticks!

A Chard School spokesman said: “The children learnt about the animals and plants of the woods and marshes, including raft spiders, luminescent bacteria and insect-eating plants.

“They also discovered how to tie suitable knots to hold their weight across the river and managed to rescue everyone from the other side!”
