CLUBS AND SOCIETIES: Ilminster Young Farmers' Club ditch cider in favour of wine!

MEMBERS of young farmers clubs in Somerset are well-known to be partial to a drop of cider or real ale – but Ilminster YFC has become more refined thanks to some expert advice on wine drinking.

Local tutor and wine writer Linda Vijeh was invited to go along and give the Ilminster YFC members a lesson in the finer points of wine tasting.

During the event seven wines were sampled and in addition to showing the group how to taste wine, Linda quizzed them on their wine knowledge.CLUBS AND SOCIETIES: Ilminster Young Farmers' Club ditch cider in favour of wine!

“I often get invited to carry out wine tastings but this is the first time, outside of formal examination classes, I have had the chance to so do with a group of young people,” said Linda.

“I was really impressed with their level of interest and the questions they asked. I think that being able to choose wines knowledgeably is an important skill, and one that can certainly pay dividends when it comes to getting good value for money.”

An Ilminster YFC spokesman said: “We all really enjoyed this. The way that Linda did the tasting was great fun, and I think that we all learnt a lot.

“We are pleased that she donated the wines so that we could boost our charitable funds.”
