ELECTIONS: Candidates at a glance for SSDC election

THE battle lines have been drawn for next month's South Somerset District Council elections with nominations having closed.

The council has announced those candidates who will be standing in the election on Thursday, May 7, 2015, which will be held the same day as the General Election.

There will be 60 seats on the council up for grabs in 39 different wards and it looks as if it will be a fascinating struggle for power.ELECTIONS: Candidates at a glance for SSDC election

The Liberal Democrats currently hold a slender two-seat majority on the council and will come under fierce pressure to retain that stranglehold.

The ruling LibDems hold 31 seats at present with the Conservatives on 25 and four independents.

A number of serving councillors are stepping down at the election: Ros Roderigo (Blackdown); John Richardson (Brympton); Kim Turner (Ilminster); Roy Mills (Langport and Huish); John Calvert (Northstone); Paul Thompson (South Petherton); Pauline Clarke (Wessex); John Chainey (Yeovil Central); Tony Fife (Yeovil East); Marcus Fysh (Yeovil South); Dave Greene (Yeovil South); Ian Martin (Yeovil West); and Jon Gleeson (Yeovil Without).
