ELECTIONS: Seven new faces for Chard Town Council

VIRTUALLY half of Chard Town Council will consist of new councillors when it meets for the first time following on from last week’s local election.

Newcomers to the council are Dave O’Brien, Irene Glynn, Amanda Broom, Stephen Warwick, Martin Carnell, Jeanette Orchard and Jason Baker.

The eight members to retain their seats are Garry Shortland, Cath Morrison, Dave Bulmer, Sarah Dowell, Andy Kenton, Jenny Kenton, Brennie Halse and Sue Wyatt.

Only two of the five Chard wards on the town council held elections on Thursday (May 7, 2015).

The Avishayes ward election was won by Cllr Garry Shortland with 531 votes and he was joined by Cllrs Cath Morrison and Dave O’Brien.

Cllr Dave Bulmer amassed 823 votes to comfortably win the Jocelyn ward alongside Cllrs Sarah Dowell and Irene Glynn.

Two of Chard council’s previous councillors, Tricia O’Brien and Graham Forsyth, failed to gain re-election.

Martin Wale, Julian Dorse, Tony Prior, Martin Dowell and Sandra Pittwood – who had all been on the council prior to the election – did not stand.

Chard Town Council meets for the first time following the election on Monday, May 18, 2015, at 7.30pm.

Results: Chard Town Avishayes Ward: Elected: Garry Frederick Shortland 531; Cath Morrison 429; David Anthony O’Brien 388. Not Elected: Peter George Amey 369; Tricia O’Brien 369; Graham Forsyth 223.

Chard Town Jocelyn Ward: Elected: Dave Bulmer 823; Sarah Gillian Dowell 398; Irene Glynn 394. Not Elected: Paul Dobbs 368; Dave Orchard 342.

Uncontested - Chard Town Combe Ward: Amanda Jane Broom; Andrew William Kenton; Stephen John Warwick.

Uncontested - Chard Town Crimchard Ward: Martin John Carnell; Jennifer Jane Kenton; Jeanette Patricia Orchard.

Uncontested - Chard Town Holyrood Ward: Jason Paul Baker; Brennie Halse; Suzanne Priscilla Wyatt.
