ELECTIONS: Labour candidate thanks Yeovil supporters

THE Labour candidate who stood in the Yeovil Constituency in the General Election has thanked everyone who voted for her.

Sheena King came fourth in the election with 4,053 votes which represented a success for Labour locally since the party only polled 2,991 votes at the previous General Election of 2010.ELECTIONS: Labour candidate thanks Yeovil supporters

While this year’s General Election was a disaster for Labour nationally, Ms King has said it was one of “good progress” in Yeovil.

“We are so incredibly disappointed at not achieving the national result we all wanted, but we made good progress in the Yeovil constituency with an increased share of the vote, and with more coordinated support we will get there,” she said.

“Thank you so much to each and every one of you who voted Labour. A huge thanks also to all those who helped with the campaign, pounding the streets and spreading the word-all your hard work is hugely appreciated!

“A very big thank you also to all our old Labour voters for coming back to us and keeping the faith - even if the Liberal Democrats had kept our supporters’ votes, they still would not have won.

“We are so proud of you for showing your commitment to Labour values of equality, compassion and decency.

“Our constituency vote went up by an amazing 1,062, despite national trends, and we have laid a firm foundation to build on.

“Thank you to everyone involved in increasing our vote share here and let us regroup, rebuild, and work together for a strong Labour victory next time around.”
