ELECTIONS: New look Ilminster Town Council

A NUMBER of new faces will be taking their places on Ilminster Town Council following last week’s local election.

Fifteen seats were up for grabs and there were 20 candidates for voters to select from.

A total of 18,225 votes were cast and coming top of the pile was former Ilminster Mayor, Carol Goodall, with 1,329.

Second in the voting was Val Keitch with 1,310 and both she and Cllr Goodall also retained their seats on South Somerset District Council.

Also retaining their place on the town council are Cllrs Roger Swann, Stuart Shepherd, Rose Neave, Sophie Storey, Andrew Shearman, Philip Burton and Jo Sothern.

But missing out on a return to the council were Deputy Mayor Andrew Lawson, John Pallister and Vernon Higgins.

The Mayor, Emma Jane Taylor, was not seeking re-election along with David Miller and Steve Austin.

Newcomers to the town council are Cllrs Rob Drayton, Julie Fowler, Don Kinder, Tony Walker, Fred Albin and John Fagan.

The new council will meet for the first time at the authority’s annual meeting on May 19, 2015, at 7.30pm.

Elected: Carol Ann Goodall 1,329; Val Keitch 1,310; Roger Swann 1,232; Stuart Richard Shepherd 1,176; Rob Drayton 1,117; Rose Neave 1,098; Sophie Louise Storey 949; Julie Marguerite Fowler 915; Don Kinder 863; Tony Walker 858; Andrew John Shearman 847; Fred Albin 813; John Andrew Fagan 779; Philip Andrew Burton 772; Jo Sothern 734.

Not Elected: Andrew Graham Lawson 716; John Pallister 712; Drew Belobaba 696; Sally-Anne Walmsley 694; Alexander Higgins Vernon 615.
