YEAR Nine students from Preston School in Yeovil have been learning more about what life is like in the world of industry.
An Industry Day was held on Tuesday (March 21, 2017) where students chose five workshops from a huge variety of different industries to attend.
Their options included healthcare from Yeovil District Hospital; careers research from Careers South West; fundraising from School in a Bag; automotive engineering and animal care from Bridgwater College; chemistry, physics of airbags, forensic science, health and social care, performing arts and engineering from Yeovil College; accountancy from Old Mill Accountants; apprenticeships from Somerset Skills and Learning; employability skills from JobCentre Plus; policing from Avon and Somerset Police; and the Army from Ministry of Defence.
A school spokesman said: “The day was extremely successful and benefitted all students in some form or another by providing them with experience and opportunities that they wouldn’t necessarily get from usual lessons.
“Many of our students have given positive feedback about the workshops and we are very grateful to the companies that have given up their time to provide these workshops. “
