SCHOOL NEWS: Amazing results at Holyrood Academy

STUDENTS at Holyrood Academy in Chard are celebrating “best ever GCSE results” which saw 70% of them achieve the key measure of at least a grade C in both Maths and English.

This represents an increase of ten percentage points for Holyrood and many students exceeded their personal targets achieving some fantastic results with an impressive one in every five grades awarded being an A or A*.SCHOOL NEWS: Amazing results at Holyrood Academy Photo 1

Five students Maggie Evans, Alfie Tipping, Teigan Veale, Ellis Caird and Freya Rodgers achieved a stunning 43 A*’s and 15 A grades.

Headteacher Matthew Collins said: “The achievements of all the students has been superb, new government measures take into account the progress made by every student in the year for the new Progress 8 score and these are significantly above national thresholds – indicating high levels of success for students of all abilities.”

“I would also like to thank the teaching staff for the incredible amount of work they have put in to supporting this group of students.”
Executive principal Martin Brook added: “In the context of our new partnership with Axe Valley it was crucial that we could demonstrate big improvements again this year.

“These results are outstanding and can only help to further our reputation at a local and regional level.

“Above all else I am delighted for our students who have worked so hard to achieve these exceptional grades.”
Newly appointed director of Sixth Form, David MacCormick, said: “This fantastic set of results means that 80% of the students in this year group have met the entry requirements for the 6th form at Holyrood and can be part of the exciting new developments.”

Head of year, Chris Slinger, said: “Really really ecstatic as they are a fabulous group of students who fully deserve these results.”

Holyrood’s head of English, Claire Berry, said: “It is amazing as over 90% of our students got their expected level of progress in English, which is brilliant.”

And head of geography, Matthew Child, added: “Geography have had their best results ever.”

And there was no better way to celebrate than having an ice cream - thanks to an ice cream van arriving on the Holyrood site for results day.
