Huish Sixth Form is also a popular choice for some of Westfield’s top achievers which George Matthews and Emily Godfrey, both of whom gained four A* grades in their GCSEs, continuing their education at Huish.

Emily has dreams of becoming a secondary school teacher after finishing her A Levels, with George also planning to continue on the University after completing A Levels in Maths, Further Maths, Geography and Spanish.

This year saw the first cohort of students in Somerset taking a GCSE in Mandarin Chinese.

The course was delivered in conjunction with Southampton University’s “Confucius Classroom” sponsored by the Chinese government and calling on the skills of teacher Lia Yu.

The class of ten students between them achieved 1A* grade, 1 A, 2B grades and 4 Cs. After this very strong start, Mandarin is set to continue as a permanent fixture of the curriculum at Westfield.

The school is very grateful to Adrian Ash for his work in securing the services of Lia Yu for students in Somerset.
