SCHOOL NEWS: Buckler’s Mead secures more Government funding to improve buildings

BUCKLER'S Mead Academy in Yeovil has secured £500,000 of funding from the Government - making them one of only three Somerset schools to achieve two lots of facilities cash over the past year.

The academy has now received a £500,000 Conditions Improvement Fund grant to replace flat roofs in the maths, and design and technology blocks, as well as boilers in the main part of the school.

Last summer the academy was able to upgrade the corridors and hall, fit a new roof, and refurbish an IT suite and enhanced study areas.

The school, which was the most improved school in Somerset, Devon, Dorset and Wiltshire from 2010 to 2013, has already got some of the best facilities in South Somerset after over £2.5 million of improvements in recent years.

Matt Wood, the academy's business manager, said: "Every bit of funding helps to make our Academy even better.

“We already have a fantastic site and we are delighted to receive yet another significant amount of money from the Government."
