RUNNING: All set for Yeovil Half Marathon

FINAL arrangements are being made by South Somerset District Council to ensure the atmosphere is buzzing for competitors, spectators and visitors when Yeovil Half Marathon is held in the town centre for the first time.

Yeovil Half Marathon will take place on Sunday (March 20, 2016) and is looking set to be a record breaking and memorable day of racing which will start and finish in Yeovil town centre for the first year.

For competitors, spectators and visitors, there will be a wide range of events and family entertainment around the bandstand area in Yeovil town centre including live music, circus skills workshop, small children’s rides and a whole host of hot and cold food vendors to suit most tastes available between 10am and 2.30pm. There will also be other family entertainment such as a Punch & Judy show and Bo Bo the clown from 9am.

Cllr Peter Gubbins, South Somerset District Council’s Area South committee chairman, said: “A lot of people are really looking forward to the Half Marathon in Yeovil this year and the organisers are expecting a record number of entries.

“We wanted to help make the Half Marathon even more successful and enjoyable for everyone coming to Yeovil by providing family entertainment and events.

“By starting and finishing in the town centre, it’s hoped everyone will see what Yeovil has to offer shoppers and visitors to the town”.

On race day, a number of temporary road closures will be in place. A road closure order has been confirmed, and the full details of this and the course route map, can be seen at www.yeovilhalf.com.

Those wishing to enter the race have until March 16, 2016, and can do so on the Yeovil Half Marathon website page at www.yeovilhalf.com.

Previous events have been based at Yeovil Town Football Club’s Huish Park stadium.
