FUTSAL: Holyrood looks to develop sport

HOLYROOD Academy in Chard played host to Somerset FA coaches Brenden Dix and Sarah Nickless who led a Futsal workshop to a group of 19 students.

Futsal is a five-a-side version of football and mainly played indoors with a smaller ball with less bounce and helps to develop improvisation, creativity and technique as well as ball control and passing in small spaces.

The participants were taught the laws of the game and coaching techniques. The students will now be assisting to run a Futsal lunchtime club as well as primary school taster sessions and mini leagues.

Holyrood will also be hosting the girl’s Under-14 Futsal area competition in the Spring next year.

HolyroodAcademy sports development manager Rich Evans has worked in partnership with Steve Gass, of Somerset Activity Sports Partnership, to secure the FA resources and equipment.

“This is an excellent opportunity to enhance the range of activities available to our students and for the Academy to provide opportunities for students to act as leaders for primary school sessions and competitions,” he said.
