SCHOOLS AND COLLEGES: Students to learn more about careers in music

STUDENTS interested in having a career in the music industry will be able to get advice and information next week at an event being staged at Yeovil College.

The British and Irish Modern Music Institute is visiting the college on Monday (October 5, 2015) as part of the BIMM Schools Tour.

The session is an interactive experience featuring live music from current BIMM students as well as a presentation and Q&A session from the institute’s college tours team offering advice about careers in the music industry as well as an insight into student life and the music diplomas and degrees that it offers.

The session starts at 4.30pm on Monday and is open to anyone over the age of 14 who is interested in working in the music industry.SCHOOLS AND COLLEGES: Students to learn more about careers in music

The Bristol campus of BIMM, who’s top students include Disney’s Tangled soundtrack vocalist Shannon Saunders and BRITS 2015 Critic’s Choice Award winner James Bay, is a popular “next step” choice for music students at Yeovil College.

Music department alumni band The Hartletts recently visited the college to perform for students at a college taster day.

The Hartletts are all at BIMM Bristol studying performance, recording and production degrees.

Monday’s event will also mark the launch of Holcote Rock – an after-school series of rock school sessions providing young musicians with the opportunity to form bands, write material, record tracks in the college’s studio and perform regularly at the music department gigs.

Holcote Rock is being run by existing music students and experienced music industry staff and is open to young musicians aged 14 to 19 with an interest in rock, pop, hip hop and indie music.

The first session is free and will be announced at the BIMM School Tour with all other sessions being held each Monday from 4.30pm to 6.30pm at Holcote House on the college campus and costing just £20 per term.

Anyone wishing to attend should contact Sam Bell on 07475-000404 or sam.bell@yeovil.ac.uk .
