CRICKET: Fantastic T20 day at Westland Sports CC - even the MP played!

A FABULOUS day of cricket took place in Yeovil on Sunday (June 21, 2015) as Westland Sports CC held its very own T20 tournament.

Four teams – called Apache, Gazelle, Lynx and Sea King – made up of Westland players past and present, plus some supporters, took part in the tournament at the club’s Westbourn Grove home.

Among the players was Yeovil MP Marcus Fysh who has shown the club great support following news that its future could be in jeopardy due to the possible closure later this year of the Westland leisure complex.

The tournament was blessed with good weather which encouraged a great crowd of people to come along and enjoy Westland’s Big Bash 2015 organised by the club’s Alex Watts and chairman Rob Fox along with the help of a host of volunteers.

There was music and refreshments through the day, but it was the Sea King team who won the tournament in exciting fashion in the final by six runs over Gazelle.

Sea King had an even closer semi-final victory which saw them beat Apache on the final ball of the game.

With a thriving youth section at Westland Sports it would be a huge shame if the club was put under threat and a sporting disaster for Yeovil to lose its one and only cricket club.
