THE youth group of Broadway Amateur Theatrical Society is bursting with energy, enthusiasm and excitement ahead of its forthcoming production of the much-loved musical Annie.

Director Jo Warren has been full of praise for the young performers who have taken the show to their heart with its fantastic characters, memorable songs and heart-warming story.

“There is so much talent among the youth group,” she said in the show programme. “The numbers of children have grown over the past two years and it has been extremely rewarding to watch them all gain in confidence during this show.

“We now have a waiting list, so I’m delighted they have been given the opportunity to take the lead in this show and demonstrate their true potential.

“With valued support and guidance from adult members, the children have focused on characterisation, vocal skills and theatrical techniques, all helping them perform to a high standard and create great effects.”

Poppy Lankaster takes the lead role of Annie, while Jack Souster plays the mega-rich Daddy Warbucks who gives her a new life away from the orphanage run by Miss Hannigan (played by Milly Whitefield).

There are some great performances all-round including the scheming Rooster (George Souster) and Lily St Regis (Lily Cumming).

With so many roles in the production of Annie many of the youth group had multiple parts including Callum Clark who played Bundles McCloskey the laundryman, radio singing man Bert Healey and also one of the orphans.CLUBS AND SOCIETIES: Youth group performs Annie

Director Jo Warren added: “The children have been a pleasure to work with, listening and wholeheartedly acting upon advice given. They are all fantastic.”

Stars of the show are the orphans and the audience will love their rendition of It’s a Hard Knock Life, while Easy Street performed by Miss Hannigan, Rooster and Lily St Regis will be another memorable highlight.

Tickets – if there are any left available – are priced £7 for adults and £4 for children and available from Horton Post Office.
