SCHOOLS AND COLLEGES: Westfield students treated like celebs on trip to China
WESTFIELD Academy students in Yeovil have returned home from an amazing trip-of-a-lifetime visit to China.
They flew from Heathrow and arrived in Chengdu after a long flight and very little sleep! They then went on a long bus journey from Chengdu to Emei where Westfield’s partner school, the Sichuan Bright Foreign Language School, is situated.
En-route they visited a Buddhist monastery on the summit of Emei mountain - it was a hair-raising drive up and down!
While they were there students got the opportunity to experience life at a Chinese school and lessons including sports, calligraphy and cooking.

The students were treated like celebrities and were asked to pose for lots of photos - such was the curiosity of the Chinese students!
There were lots of opportunities for sight-seeing as well such as the giant Buddha in Liesham, a panda sanctuary, a rickshaw ride, Tiananmen Square, the Forbidden City, Huaqing Palace, the world–famous terracotta warriors, the Temple of Heaven, the ’birds-nest’ Olympic stadium, a jade factory, the Ming tombs, a tea ceremony. Not to mention, the iconic Great Wall of China!
Group leader Mr Mounsey said: “It was an unforgettable experience for everyone and it was a real pleasure to spend the week with our students.
“Throughout the trip they displayed a maturity beyond their years and they were admiral ambassadors for WestfieldAcademy.
“The next visit to our sister school in China is planned for 2017 – we are looking forward to it already!”
