ELECTIONS: The battle for SSDC could be won and lost in Yeovil

THERE are 60 seats to be won on South Somerset District Council at next month's election - but more than 25 per cent of them are available in the Yeovil area.

It means that overall power for the council, which already hangs narrowly close, could be won and lost on the outcome of what happens in Yeovil when people go to the polls on Thursday, May 7, 2015.

There are 12 seats available in wards marked out within the Yeovil Town Council boundaries, while there are three in Yeovil Without ward and two in the Brympton area on the outskirts of town including Houndstone and Abbey Manor.

The Liberal Democrats currently hold a slender two-seat majority on the council and will come under fierce pressure to retain that stranglehold.ELECTIONS: The battle for SSDC could be won and lost in Yeovil

Marcus Fysh, who has been representing the Yeovil South Ward, is also not seeking re-election to the district council with his sights set on becoming Yeovil’s MP in the General Election for the Conservatives.

Jon Gleeson is not standing in Yeovil Without for the LibDems, while in Brympton the LibDems are without John Richardson.
