YOUTH FOOTBALL: Harry Morgan nets spectacular winner for Montacute in Under-9s Cup Final

A SUPER goal was a perfect way to decide what had been a super cup final this morning (Saturday, March 14, 2015) involving Montacute Youth and Wessex Wanderers.

The final of the Under-9s Knockout Cup in the Yeovil Minisoccer League was played at a chilly Somerton, but in a fantastic spirit.

The game was evenly poised throughout and could have gone either way, but it was in the closing stages of the match when Montacute grabbed the only goal of the game to secure the cup.

It was a great goal. The ball went over from the right and Montacute’s Harry Morgan was there to flash the ball into the net on the volley. Wessex Wanderers’ keeper, who had been in good form, got his fingers to the ball, but he could not prevent it from nestling in the back of the net.

The Wessex keeper had thwarted Montacute on a number of occasions and it was credit to him that he was only beaten by a fabulous goal scored by Harry Morgan.

Wessex did not lose their heads after falling behind to the late strike and kept going in search of an equaliser, but it was not to be.

Montacute celebrated their cup victory come the end, but sportingly congratulated their opponents.

Although Montacute took home the silverware, it was youth football in general which was the overall winner for producing a game which thoroughly entertained the large group of parents, relatives and friends who were watching at the sidelines.
