ELECTIONS: Campaign starts in Yeovil

THE 2015 General Election campaign in the Yeovil constituency has finally got underway.

Candidates will now be doing all they can to win the votes needed on Thursday, May 7, 2015, to enable them to take their seat in the Houses of Parliament.

Liberal Democrat candidate David Laws will be hoping to retain his position as Yeovil MP for a fourth term. The 2010 election saw Mr Laws gain 55.7 per cent of the vote and a 13,036 majority.

It is expected that his main rival to win the seat will be Conservative candidate Marcus Fysh.

But things could also depend on where people vote outside of the main two – with Sheena King standing for Labour, Emily McIvor for the Green Party and Simon Smedley for the UK Independence Party.

The Yeovil seat has been held by the Liberals/LibDems since Paddy Ashdown won the seat in 1983. Previous to that the Yeovil constituency had been Conservative.
