SCHOOLS AND COLLEGES: New 3G pitch officially opened at Westfield Academy

WESTFIELD Academy was delighted to welcome Yeovil Town player and former student, Chris Weale, as the special guest for the official opening yesterday (Monday, March 23, 2015) of its brand new 3G artificial pitch.

The £280,000 facility, which was funded with generous support from South Somerset District Council, is just one of several major new developments at the school in Yeovil over the past few years.

The pitch is now regarded as one of the best in the area and is already used by many community groups, as well as the Yeovil Town Development Squad.SCHOOLS AND COLLEGES: New 3G pitch officially opened at Westfield Academy

Glovers’ goalkeeper Chris Weale refereed one of the matches and gave a few coaching tips along the way.

Once Chris Weale had cut the ribbon to mark the official opening of the facility, he then spoke about his memories of Westfield and answered questions from the audience.

Westfield principal, Chris Hunt, said: “We are really grateful to Chris Weale for taking the time to come and open this fantastic new facility at Westfield.

“Our sincere thanks to the council for its generous financial support for this venture, which has meant we have been able to provide a wonderful resource, not just for our students, but for the whole community.SCHOOLS AND COLLEGES: New 3G pitch officially opened at Westfield Academy

“Thank you also to Notts Sports and O’Brien Contractors, who worked to design and develop the facility, supported by the Westfield site team.

“The development of our sports provision at Westfield Academy will be a key focus for the coming months – and this pitch, along with our new netball and tennis courts and refurbished sports hall are just the beginning of this process.”

The 3G pitch at Westfield Academy is available to hire for community use.
