There were also performances from the Holyrood Swing Band and the Holyrood Choir.

All of the performers united at the end of the concert – which was watched by parents and family members – with a performance of World In Union.

The concert was under the leadership of Andrew Gilham, head of music at Holyrood, and Holyrood’s choirmaster Trevor Lloyd-Jones whose enthusiasm was so evident.

There was no doubting that they were impressed by the young musical talent on show which would stand them well for the future at Holyrood with their music projects.

Holyrood principal Martin Brook congratulated everyone who took part and praised parents for encouraging their children to learn musical instruments.

But he also thanked the “fantastic” Mr Gilham and Mr Lloyd-Jones for their work in putting the concert together.

“They are Holyrood’s Laurel and Hardy,” he joked. “But they are fantastic for the school – even though they might act like an old married couple at times!”

Mr Brook also congratulated the Holyrood students who had taken part in the concert.
