SCHOOLS AND COLLEGES: Robotics challenge at Stanchester
ROBOTICS was the order of the day at Stanchester Academy in Stoke-sub-Hamdon when students were able to get hands-on experience with new technologies.
Stanchester welcomed representatives from AimHigher and Bournemouth University yesterday (Wednesday, March 11, 2015) to lead robotics workshops with selected Year Eight students.
A Stanchester spokesman said: “This was an excellent opportunity for our students to develop a hands-on understanding of new technologies along with increasing new skills in an area which is tipped to blossom as a major ‘clean technology’ in the UK over the coming years.”

“Skills developed throughout the day included following instructions to build a robot and using computer software to program their robot to complete a series of tasks.
“Well done to all the students who took part especially to Joshua Hodson and Cameron Hill who completed the build stage in super-fast time fitting their robot with extra motors and light sensors so it followed the correct path.”
A timed competition took place at the end of the day and all the students achieved the British Science Association Bronze Crest Award in Technology.
Congratulations to the winning teams: 1st – Emily Young and Katie Helliar; 2nd – Mollie Cregan, Georgia Williams and Evie Helliar; and 3rd – Leo Bonning, Libby Cooper and Aisha Badini.
