SCHOOLS AND COLLEGES: Stanchester Academy rocks the audience

TALENTED students at Stanchester Academy have been congratulated on wowing audiences last week with their production of We Will Rock You.

The students put on the show at the school in Stoke-sub-Hamdon from Tuesday, February 3, 2015, through to the Friday, February 6, 2015.

The musical - based on the music of legendary rock supergroup Queen and put together by the band and Ben Elton – is set in the future in a place that was once known as Earth and was now Ga Ga World where all musical instruments were banned unless you were a rebel such as Galileo and Scaramouche.

Dozens of students were involved in the production – either on stage or off it – with the leading roles shared.

The two teams of performers were known as Dragon and Phoenix and when the Yeovil Press went along to the show on the final night – it was the night of the Dragon with Alice Flynn as Scaramouche and Carl Morgan as Galileo, plus Niamh Small as Killer Queen and Katie Wilkins as Khashoggi.

It was a great show in which the whole cast gave it their all and the audience could not help but get moved along with the sounds of Queen.

The students were told at the end of the show that they should be immensely proud of their achievements and that they had “nailed it” and that the memories of We Will Rock You would remain “etched in their memories for all time.”

The show’s musical director, teacher Liz Hughes, said it had been an “honour and a privilege” to have worked with such “phenomenal students” on the production.

“It’s events like these which are not the reason why I do my job,” she said. “It’s events like these which are not the reason why I love my job.

“But it is events like these which make me realise that I would never consider doing anything else.”
