COLLEGE NEWS: Floristry students are blooming marvellous!

THREE floristry students from Bridgwater and Taunton College took the plunge recently by entering themselves in the Floristry competition at the Fleurex trade show in Cheshire.

Each year the Fleurex trade show hosts a range of floristry competitions where top florists from throughout the UK compete to gain the championship.

Many of the entrants have competed at other major competitions such as the RHS Florist of the Year and the WorldSkillsUK national competition.

Amanda Winsor, who studies at the Cannington Centre, and Laura Williams from the Yeovil Centre, entered the parasol for a bridesmaid category, and Amy Shakeshaft from the Yeovil Centre’s entry was for the bridal bouquet for a ballerina category.

Jacqui Weaver, course leader for floristry at Bridgwater and Taunton College, said: “Though the entries from our students were not lucky enough to win this time around, it is great to see that our floristry students are keen to enter into such well known competitions.

“We encourage our students to take part in these competitions as the experience and increased confidence they get by competing against the top florists in the country is invaluable.  It also leads to recognition in the industry which can be great marketing for their future businesses.”
