COLLEGE NEWS: Students raise cash for the Samaritans
HAIRDRESSING students at Yeovil College have been a cut above the rest after raising £160 for the Samaritans.
Suzanna Coleman, lecturer for hairdressing at Yeovil College, said the students that took part in the fundraising event have been studying on Level 1-3 programmes.
“As well as our regular customers all students had to invite customers into the salon for a styling service and in return they donated money towards the Samaritans,” added Suzanna.
“The students are very proud to support a service that is all run by volunteers and is in great demand 24 hours a day.”
The fundraising event saw the students inviting clients to come in for a styling service over a one week period at Yeovil College. Instead of paying for their styling service clients donated money to the Samaritans.
Julie Rainford, fundraiser for Samaritans of Yeovil and Sherborne, said: “The money we received will go towards the day to day running of the local centre which costs around £100 a day.
“We were delighted to have been chosen by Suzanna for the second year now, as their charity, for the fundraising event which raised an amazing £160.”
Samaritans offer emotional support to anyone who is experiencing emotional difficulties and needs someone to talk to, where it will go no further and in complete confidence.
