SCHOOL NEWS: Brushing up your Shakespeare with Preston School students

TALENTED performers at Preston School in Yeovil would have impressed William Shakespeare himself had he been around to watch the students in action in a super Creative Expression Showcase.

There was music, song, dance, drama and gymnastics at the event at Preston School last Tuesday (June 21, 2016) in front of a packed audience - with everything based around William Shakespeare to commemorate this year's 400th anniversary of his death.

It would be wrong to highlight individual acts as they were all brilliant, but special praise should go to those who carried on despite having a few technical problems with the microphone such as Jacob Edwards who performed the comedy song Brush Up Your Shakespeare from Kiss Me Kate.

There were some stunning performances from dancers and gymnasts, while there were some fine solos sung by the likes of Molly Frost, Amy Overd, Josie Farrant, Rachel Boote, Annie Pugsley and Anastacia Hayward.

While top marks to Eleanor Bowers-Cook for performing With or Without You on the recorder. Probably one of the rare – if ever to be repeated – occasions when you will hear a U2 classic song played on that most traditional of school musical instruments!

People might be wondering what U2 have got to do with Williams Shakespeare, but it has been said that the words of With or Without You had reminded some of Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet.
