SCHOOL NEWS: Congratulations to Holyrood on Boccia success!
HOLYROOD Academy in Chard sent two teams to the South Somerset Schools Area Boccia tournament held at Westfield Academy in Yeovil and they enjoyed a great tournament.
The teams played eight games against other schools in the South Somerset area. Boccia is a fast-growing sport since its Paralympic status in 1984. It is a ‘bowls-type’ game, related to pétanque, and involves players being seated as they throw leather balls towards a target ball.
Holyrood’s Team 2 consisting of Oliver Rich and Joao Ribeiro performed strongly resulting in them finishing as runners-up of the tournament.
Holyrood’s Team 1 of Dan Humphreys and Rocky Lanfranchi won all but two of their games and were as a result named the tournament winners!
Sports development officer at Holyrood, Rich Evans, said: “The competition was thoroughly enjoyed by all with some very close games, the boys played with great skill and fantastic sportsmanship.”
