SCHOOLS AND COLLEGES: Students impressed by Paddy's 'no nonsense' approach

FORMER Yeovil MP and leader of the Liberal Democrats, Paddy Ashdown, visited Holyrood Academy in Chard where he spoke with Sixth-Form students about the “future for the next generation.”

Lord Ashdown was invited to Holyrood as part of the school’s programme of Speakers for Inspiration.

He was asked to talk to students about his career and to offer any advice he felt might benefit their future.

He particularly focussed his speech on his role as an MP for South Somerset and the students were completely engaged, asking questions and responding to his challenges. Many commented on how they enjoyed his direct “no nonsense” approach.

They felt inspired by his message to go out and follow their dreams and have adventures before settling down, and to make sure they gave 100% effort to every opportunity that presents itself.

Karen Seib, head of Holyrood’s Sixth-Form, said: “I would like to extend my thanks to Lord Ashdown for visiting and inspiring us.

“We all thoroughly enjoyed his entertaining and down-to-earth presentation which he was kind enough to deliver and we appreciate his time.”
