THE Rotary Club of Chard hosted its annual Youth Speaks competition at Holyrood Academy in Chard.

Competition was hot when teams fought for to win their rounds by convincing judges with their points of view!

The judges were Chard Rotary Club president Robin Williams, Peggy Hannam and Jonathan Farey and were responsible for selecting the most persuasive winners.

The Intermediate section (11-13years) was won by Rachael Davis, Katy Speed and Lucy Hollister who spoke about Emojis. The winning group for the Seniors (14-17 years) was Agatha Evans, Sophie Winch and Beth Pitman with their speech on Wear your Poppy with Pride.

Mr Williams praised all the participating students for the entertainment they had given the audience, but also for their incredible level of maturity shown in delivering their talks.

Holyrood’s head of English, Puck Webber, said: “What a special evening was had by all! The speeches were engaging and interesting throughout and the Judges had an unenviable task to choose the best teams! Thank you to all who participated in making the evening such a success.

“We wish our winning teams the best of luck when they go forward to the District Final in January 2016.”
