SCHOOLS AND COLLEGES: Holyrood teacher steps down after 38 years!

HOLYROOD Academy has said farewell to long-standing physics teacher Alan Gitsham who has left the Chard school after nearly 40 years.

The final day of term at Holyrood marked the end of Mr Gitsham’s 38 years of dedicated teaching in the science department where he has taught thousands of students over the years.

A Holyrood spokesman said: “Many people will remember Mr Gitsham as he has taught existing staff, parents and even grandparents of our current students after joining Holyrood Community School in 1977!

“Mr Gitsham has been a much-loved and well-respected member of staff at Holyrood and we are all sorry he will no longer be an everyday feature of our school.

“He intends to take a well-earned break and to finally have more time to spend with his wife Mu, and to finally listen to his vast music collection.”

Mr Gitsham said: “It is testament to the 38 years I have been here as to how much I have enjoyed my teaching career.

“Working at Holyrood has always been brilliant and I feel privileged to have been part of the changes, development and progress that the Academy has undergone.

“I shall miss school-life enormously but am looking forward to a rest! Thank you to all students, staff and parents who have wished me well in my retirement.”
