SCHOOLS AND COLLEGES: Holyrood's got talent!

HOLYROOD Academy students in Chard certainly know how to put on an event to showcase their talent!

The school was a hive of cultural activity earlier this month in the form of the annual Music Concert as well as a Summer Art Exhibition where audiences were treated to stunning displays of artwork from Years 11-13 followed by performances from Holyrood’s musicians.SCHOOLS AND COLLEGES: Holyrood's got talent!

Holyrood’s head of art, Kate Cumberland, said: “I am thrilled at the positive response to our Summer Exhibition, as we have been able to boast some outstanding work from our extremely talented students.

“I was delighted to receive comments marvelling at the inspirational pieces and how proud the local community felt at the nurturing of such incredible talent at Holyrood Academy.”

Andrew Gilham, Holyrood’s head of music, got the concert into full swing as he conducted the academy’s orchestra in Rondeau & Air and My Fair Lady.

The evening then continued with emotive performances from soloists, the flute choir, the brass ensemble, the string ensemble, the swing band, the choir and the chamber choir.

The concert was rounded off by Holyrood’s impressive Concert Band performing three of their favourite and uplifting pieces - Perfidia, Jungle Boogie and Buffalo Head.

Holyrood principal Martin Brook said: “The highlight of my week was without doubt the Summer Concert and Art Exhibition.

“The quality of the artwork and performances was exceptional and the general feel of the evening could not have been bettered.

“My thanks go to all those involved, but especially to the art and music department staff who work so tirelessly in their efforts to get the very best out of our students.”
