SCHOOLS AND COLLEGES: Animal magic at Buckler’s Mead Academy

ANIMAL-LOVING Buckler's Mead Academy students in Yeovil are learning skills to launch potential careers as vets and animal carers with a new after-school club.

The students are learning the care needed to look after a range of animals, as well as the maintenance of pets in the Animal Care club.

They even get to look after rodents during holidays and long weekends as part of the club. And guest speakers are popping in to talk to students about more exotic animals including spiders and snakes.

Teacher Dani Hurd said: "The care of animals can launch dozens of different careers and this club is proving very popular."

Buckler's Mead is a high-achieving academy school that was rated the best in the West in 2013.
