CLUBS AND SOCIETIES: The curtain comes down on The King & I

YEOVIL Amateur Operatic Society has been celebrating the end of its latest spectacular production at the Octagon Theatre.

Members performed the ever-popular musical, The King & I, for two weeks and the show concluded last night (Saturday, March 28, 2015).

Audiences have revelled in the splendour of the show with its fine costumes, wonderful sets and memorable songs.

Support of the public in going to watch the shows is of paramount importance to YAOS and its future.

The group’s chairman, Geoff Thresh, writing in the show programme, said he would like to thank everyone for their continued support.

“Our production costs continue to rise and this show has cost about £85,000 so we are always looking at ways to raise more income,” he said.

But YAOS put aside its own financial pressures last night (Saturday, March 28, 2015) to hold a collection in aid of the oncology unit at Yeovil District Hospital in memory of Lucy Hillard who died last month.

Next up for YAOS will be Iolanthe from October 5-10, 2015, at the Octagon Theatre directed by Alan Spencer and with Matthew Holmes as musical director.

While this time next year and YAOS will be coming to the end of a planned production run of Evita – which will be a first-time show for Yeovil.
