ELECTIONS: Little to cheer about in the Budget says the Green Party

PEOPLE struggling to get by will find little cheer in this week’s Budget, says the Green Party.

Greens have now called for an immediate end to austerity-led economics and a rebalancing of the economy so that it works for the common good.ELECTIONS: Little to cheer about in the Budget says the Green Party

Emily McIvor, who is the Green Party’s candidate for the Yeovil constituency at the General Election on May 7, 2015, said the Green Party was unashamed about its ambition to increase both Government spending and taxation to help create a fairer, more sustainable society.

“Chancellor of the Exchequer George Osborne’s budget announcement of £1.3-billion of tax cuts for North Sea oil and gas production with no new investment in renewables just shows how out of touch this Government is on climate change,” she said.

“The Green Party is the only party truly committed to transitioning to a zero-carbon economy.”

Leader of the Green Party of England and Wales, Natalie Bennett, said: “This final Coalition budget offers little hope to the many millions of people across Britain who are struggling to get by. Austerity economics has failed.”

Emily McIvor, who is a longstanding member of the Green Party, grew up in Axminster and now lives in Axmouth.

She has had careers in teaching and animal welfare and is currently policy director for a leading international animal welfare charity.
